Innovative Training Solutions for a New Generation of Business Leader

Learning and development is always changing, adapting and growing. That is one of the reasons it's such a major contributor to organizational success! Too often companies struggle to keep up and adapt to the latest trends in learning, performance and technology.

Phoenix consultants are change leaders that search out new ways of obtaining training excellence and testing better ways to meet learning objectives.  We bring that information back to our clients and help them adapt their current programs with new learning developments.

The result? Training solutions that keep our clients engaging a new generation of learners while still aligning with the overall brand and vision of their organization. Workshops that are easier, cheaper and faster to deliver.  Training professionals who know their audience, understand how to maintain a program, and adapt to new technologies quickly....

Learning and Development is our business.  Let us help you make it a part of yours.

Please take a moment to look through our available products and services, learn a little more about who we are, or contact us directly to see how we can help you improve, adapt or create innovative training solutions in your organization!

A word on sustainability...

Phoenix Design has an internal sustainability policy which states that we will endeavor to reduce our business impact on the environment wherever possible.  For this reason our training and non-training recommendations will usually include options for using online training manuals and accessing virtual collaboration sites.  The benefit to our clients is that many of these options reduce the overall printing cost of standard programs.

Ask us how we can help you build a your own sustainability program and help your organization start its own environmental initiatives!

Distance Education for Dummies

First of all, let me preface this by saying that I am an absolute 'for dummies' fanatic!  Whenever I have to learn something new I head to my nearest Chapters to see what our good friends at the For Dummies institute have available.  I have books on planning a wedding, buying and selling a Canadian home, puppies, woodworking *glances over at the home made coffee table that couldn't support a doiley*...maybe I should have left that one on the racks!

So when someone asked me to create a brief Distance Education for Dummies memo for their business I was quite honoured.  And more than a little daunted!  Distance Education is such a hot topic in L&D right now and the topics you can cover under that umbrella are ultimately endless.

What I decided to do was to list my top 5 favourite myths and facts around Distance Education and ultimately fill out the truths behind this delivery method.  Enjoy!

MYTH

  1. Distance Education has to be expensive
  2. Distance Education is complicated
  3. Distance Education requires a high level of knowledge and skill in learning and development
  4. Distane Education has to by synchronous
  5. Distance Education is likely to be BORING!

FACTS:

  1. Distance Education is frequently less expensive than classroom training as your overhead is lower while your capacity is higher.
  2. Distance Education is only as complicated as your learning technology provider and I haven't yet seen a program that can't be mastered inside of a day.
  3. ALL EDUCATION (distance education and otherwise) requires a high level of knowledge and skill in learning and development.
  4. Distance Education can include both synchronous and asynchronous components.  In fact, the more it includes both the more dynamic I think the program can be.
  5. Distance Education is not boring!  Like any training program it should employ the right tools for the right scenarios and encourage people to look for ways to make adult education engaging and effective!
